Hardwood floors come in many different types and styles. Here are a few options to consider:
Unfinished hardwood allows you to seamlessly add wood to match your existing wood. After it is installed, we sand both the existing, and the new wood so that it’s level and even. We then fill all the cracks, buff it fine, and apply a stain or seal, followed by heavy duty finish in your choice of sheen. Using raw hardwood allows you to truly customize your look, and is the best way to get a uniformed look across your entire floor, especially if you are keeping your existing wood.
Prefinished hardwood makes for a quick installation job. You won’t have to deal with any odors, and the floor will be ready to walk on as soon as we’re done. The other great thing about prefinished hardwood is that the finish is baked on and therefore extremely durable. There are many different varieties of prefinished solid wood, allowing you to get more expensive traits, such as distressed and hand scraped woods, available for much less than it would cost for us to do it on site.
Solid hardwood, whether prefinished or finished on site, can be sanded and refinished many times. It’s also susceptible to changes in humidity, and will expand and contract with the changes of seasons. Engineered hardwood is less susceptible to changes in humidity, and won’t expand and contract the same way solid wood can. Engineered wood is made of real wood glued to several layers of wood underneath, like plywood, or other types of materials such as corn. Depending on the thickness of the solid wood top layer, it can only be sanded and refinished once or twice, but it has excellent stability over time. It is recommended to use a material such as engineered, laminate, or luxury vinyl tile in places such as basements.
